What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are core beliefs of Mattawan Community Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible.  All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe the Bible consisting of the Old and New Testament, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.
( John 10:30, Luke 1:35, Matthew 28:19)

Jesus, The Christ

We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
(Luke 1:35, 2 Corinthians 5:21, John 21:25)

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in this present evil world.
(John 14:26, Romans 8:36)

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised Him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.
(Romans 5:8-10)

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.
(Ephesians 3:10)

Resurrection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.  We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
(2 Timothy 4:1, Matthew 25:31-32)

The Bible

We believe the Bible consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testament, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.
(2 Timothy 3:16)
While the Holy Scriptures are the only rule of faith and practice for Mattawan Community Church, we believe the Apostles and Nicene Creeds encapsulate core Christian doctrines.
